Jeni Cox

Kindergarten – 4th Grade

My name is Jeni Cox, and I am excited to be the Kindergarten-4th grade teacher at Columbine Christian School.  I came to Columbine in 2008 after three previous years of teaching experience.  I received my teaching degree from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska.  I began my teaching career teaching 4th grade at a mission school on the island of Palau in the South Pacific.  Following that I taught 5th grade in a public school in Nebraska.  After teaching there for two years, I moved to Durango to teach grades 2-4 at Columbine.  The atmosphere of the school really drew me in with the opportunity to teach at a Christian school that includes outdoor/place-based education.

I received a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of New Mexico in 2011.  My thesis project focused on brain-based learning, which is passion of mine.  I believe students learn best when they are engaged, allowed to move around, work as a team with their classmates, and have fun!  I often incorporate movement and music in my classroom.  Excellence is important to me, and I enjoy helping students discover their potential and capabilities.

During my time at Columbine I have taught several combinations of grade levels ranging from K-5.  I have found I love something unique about each of the grade levels! After being at Columbine for three years, I also became the vice-principal. Then in 2013 I became the principal in addition to being a classroom teacher. I enjoy the administrative aspects as well as teaching in the classroom!  Most of all, I love hanging out with kids and being outdoors! My husband and I really enjoy living in Durango and love to explore the area.  It is truly a blessing to be part of Columbine Christian School!
