Ski Days

Living in the mountains of western Colorado gives us the perfect reason to include skiing in our PE curriculum. Twice during the winter, we will take a PE trip to Wolf Creek Ski Area.

We plan those days to take advantage of the half-price locals' days. Lift tickets are about $22 for adults and $13 for children. This not only allows us to keep it affordable, but does not require students to spend the whole day in lessons. One of the biggest thrills for us is watching students who have not skied before come down the slopes making turns by the end of the day.

Skiers

Children in K-1 must have a parent attending or make special arrangements with the teacher.

Teachers enjoy challenging more advanced students to keep up with them and vise versa!!

Students will need:
Lift ticket money (plus rentals $10 if needed) in cash.
Wolf Creek does not accept checks.
  A lunch with extra snacks
  $1.50 for hot chocolate
sunscreen (put some on before you leave and bring extra)
one pair of extra socks (not cotton)
  good snow resistant gloves/mittens
sunglasses or goggles (optional, but available at the thrift       stores abundantly)
appropriate snow outerwear (click here for ideas)

Remember: A warm skier is a happy skier!
WE WELCOME LOTS OF PARENT SUPPORT ON SKI DAYS. IF YOU ARE DRIVING, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO STAY WITH STUDENTS ALL DAY, BUT PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

Driver check-off sheet:
Thanks so much for your part in making this day possible. Here are a few essential tips we hope will be helpful:
Be sure students have money for the lift ticket. Wolf Creek does not accept checks. If you run into problems, find a teacher at the rentals area.
DO NOT LEAVE ANY LUNCHES IN THE CARS. When you arrive at the area, make an almost immediate right and go up the hill to the building called Base Camp. Lunches should be left on a shelf there. It very often happens that a student needs food during the morning.
Check to be sure that money, hats, gloves, etc. do not get left in the car.
Although we don't expect you to ski with your passengers, please be sure those who are beginners or need rentals make their way to the rentals area so that we can take over for you!!
Meet for lunch around noon at the Base Camp lodge. You can buy drinks and snacks there, but the other buildings do not allow sack lunches.
Be sure your passengers know that they must be off the slopes at 3:00, and ready to leave by 3:30. (Meet at Base Camp) Any rentals should be turned in before that.
Even though we have many capable skiers, remind students to always ski with a buddy, and never alone.
Thanks again, and have a great time!!
