May Oles - Kindergarten
|
| I am May Oles, teacher of our Kindergarten
class. I have Montessori training, along with a degree in Elementary Ed. However, my most useful education has
come from spending 23 years in the classroom! I have also learned so much from my own children, 5 of whom still
live at home, and one who is grown, with children of her own!! I like to camp and hike, and enjoy riding my horses
in the mountains during my summer vacation. |

|
| Teaching is definitely my most passionate
interest. This year will be my 14th year at CCS, and it has been a thrill to watch it grow over the years. No matter
what level I teach, I love getting to know my students as unique individuals. The more I know a child, the better
I can ignite his/her spark for learning. Understanding that each child has been fashioned by a loving God brings
a climate of respect and caring to the classroom. |

In Kindergarten, we work to take a balanced
approach to reading, using systematic phonics, good literature, and basal readers. In addition, parent participation
in a home reading program is considered key to the student's success. In all academic areas, I work hard to incorporate
real experiences into our curriculum. For instance, rather than assign a work sheet showing pictures of objects
and coins to teach about money, I would prefer to set up a school store, selling snacks or pencils and erasers,
using real objects and real money!! |
| I am currently serving as CCS principal
and welcome the personal growth that has come as a result of this challenge. Your thoughts and ideas about our
school are important to me. You can make an appointment to chat or feel free to e-mail me. |
